New Keepers Of The Water Towers is a new band from Sweden. Call it Stoner Rock, call it Doom Metal? That always lies in the eye of the beholder. However, first of all singer/guitarist Rasmus Booberg gives us details about the band history: "Me and Tor Sjödén met during our time in music school and after a couple of years of friendship and through a shared interest in heavy music we decided to record some heavy ass music: 'The Three Headed Cow' came to life ... Six months or so later we were done recording and mixing 'The Chronicles Of The Massive Boar'. It was around that time that we came up with the name New Keepers Of The Water Towers, through the storyline of the EP. Another six months later we had managed to produce another piece. This one was to be called 'The Chronicles Of Iceman'. It was at that time we grew sick of our long ass name and shortened it to New Keepers. And we found Victor who then started playing with us live together with a short line of session bass players. I think it was in January 2009, a couple of months after finishing 'Iceman', that we got in touch with Meteor City and signed for a release of a full-length CD combining the two EPs. In connection with the release we changed our name back again. Now, a year later, High Roller Records have licensed a release of the later of the two conceptual EPs from Meteor City in the most awesome format available: a vinyl LP." Rasmus continues to talk about the geographical roots of the New Keepers Of The Water Towers: "Our origins are a bit varied. Tor moved down from the slightly northern city of Falun. And our yet uncredited but still permanent bass player Robin Holmberg hails from Karlskrona. But now we all live in Stockholm, the capital of our glorious country!" Apart from New Keepers Of The Water Towers High Roller Records is home to quite a few other bands from "the glorious country" of Sweden. Rasmus seems to know that: "Well yes, we actually put together a show with High Roller recording artists Sanctuary In Blasphemy a couple of weeks ago, nice bunch of chaps. Although I have never heard of DoomDogs, at least Tor is a bit acquainted with Sonic Ritual, we are putting a show together with them in a month or so. It is going to rock. But the reason we got in contact with Steffen and High Roller was through our old classmate Uno Bruniusson, from High Roller Records band In Solitude. Lovely bunch of Heavy Metal maniacs. Tor was their driver during a European tour and got to meet Steffen an introduced our band to him." And now it is time, ladies and gentlemen, for the question of questions: Is it Doom or Stoner? Rasmus does not seem to be that bothered: "I would say that our musical style is the culmination of modern and vintage Rock and Metal. We try to keep our music as true as possible to our musical tastes and throw in a little something extra to make it fun and challenging to play. We try not to speak in terms of Doom and Stoner. I think that kind of classification only limits a lot of aspects in the music. When you hear of a band that plays 'Stoner Rock' music, I think some people, who might have liked the music, get discouraged by it. And some, who are hoping for something to sound like Kyuss or the likes of it, are disappointed when its not all slow and fuzzy. Three years ago, when I wrote our first riff (the main riff of 'The Three Headed Cow'), I was aiming straight for 'Stoner-Doom'. I think I hit it spot on. But ever since we have been treading new grounds and we are moving further and further away from the Stoner desert." The album "The Chronicles Of Iceman" (a concept album that "circles around a bunch of explorers in the 18th century that set sail for new lands") has originally been released by Meteor City in Sweden, so it has already received some reviews: "The album, as it was released by Meteor City, has been a great success for us. It has obviously not hit commercially on the spot but when it has reached the right hands, it has been very appreciated. We have got some nice reviews, and I haven't actually seen anyone who didn't like it, even if not everyone loves it. I think people generally are having a hard time with the second half of the album, containing our first EP. It's a bit harder on the ears but, at least I think, even more rewarding when you accept it for what it is. But that doesn't matter now because High Roller Records are only releasing the first half!"
