Mastered for vinyl by Patrick W. Engel at TEMPLE OF DISHARMONY in October 2020. When after 15 years, Solstice released the successor to their full-length masterpiece “New Dark Age” in 2013, it was “just” an EP but still no disappointment for fans of England’s premier epic metal band … on the contrary. Flanked by three shorter, restrained instrumentals, the two longtracks at the heart of “Death’s Crown Is Victory” distill the essence of a partly reformed yet stylistically unwavering group that has not – to this day – found its peers yet. As a seamless combination of British seventies folk’s fragility and muscular metal from the earliest forges in the country, the five-tracker surely stood the test of time, and to make sure that Solstice founder, guitarist and main composer Rich Walker is also meant to stay, “Death’s Crown Is Victory” now gets a proper re-issue treatment. This remastered edition was instigated by Cruz Del Sur Music alumnus Tom Phillips (While Heaven Wept) with High Roller Records and comes out in a limited run of 1.000 vinyl copies (200 white/orange splatter, 400 black, 400 white) in support of the cancer-stricken band leader. “In the midsummer of 2020, we began a concerted effort to help our brother Rich during a time of a desperation. Now we are working on several killer titles from different bands that have never been released previously on LP as well as a throng of classics that have long been out-of-print, beginning with this brand new pressing of ‘Death’s Crown Is Victory’…” – Tom Phillips, December 2020 |
