If you’re looking for the definite sound of raw, dark Thrash Metal, look no further. It’s Nekromantheon you have been searching for. “Rise, Vulcan Spectre” was their second album, and it was awarded with the Norwegian Grammy Award for the best metal albums in 2012. Moreover, Fenriz listed “Rise, Vulcan Spectre” as one of his favourite releases of 2012, and who else should we turn to for true expertise?
The Norwegian Thrash Metal force from Kolbotn should by no means be mistaken for a bunch of copycats; instead of simply imitating the sound of an age gone by, Nekromantheon strive to bring back what they felt has been missing in Thrash Metal: the raw darkness of the early releases by Slayer, Sepultura, Mutilator, Possessed, Dark Angel, Poison (GER)… Nekromantheon continue the legacy of the ancients, the raw, dark and sinister thrash bands that they love so much. “We want to pick op the torch where they left of, and continue the path into darker and uncharted waters.”
“Rise, Vulcan Spectre” was recorded in Nekromatheon’s own KickArse studio, which basically is the band’s rehearsal room. A very conscious decision: “We believe that Thrash and Metal (and ROCK) in general should sound dirty, dynamic and alive, so we've made a point out of recording ourselves, in a very dynamic, spontaneous and old school fashion.”
The ancient Greek and Roman mythology that inspires the concept of “Rise, Vulcan Spectre” is of the utmost significance for Nekromantheon: “It is our cradle and our tomb. Our ideology is rooted in the old myths and mysticisms. They give us our energy, and they suit the music perfectly”. The same goes for the cover artwork, an epic image of Hephaestus hammering, done by R.K.V of Obliteration, perfectly fitting the album which was done in the honour and spirit of the God of metal and fire.
Take part in the cult of “Rise, Vulcan Spectre”: play it loud, get intoxicated and worship the ancients!
