Stallion are a new traditional heavy metal band from Germany. Äxl and Paul have been sharing a flat for the last six years. As they were not able to find suitable musicians for their project, the two decided to record their debut mini-album »Mounting The World« on their own accord. Paul was handling the vocals and Äxl played all the instruments on the six tracks.
However, Stallion is not a mere studio project. The band is one of the hottest newcomers in German Metal at the moment. Stallion will present their new complete line-up this year when they are playing such prestigious festivals as “Keep It True”, “Metal Assault”, “Hell Over Hamburg”, “Metalheadz Open Air”, “Taunus Metal”, “Der Detze Rockt” and “Hell's Pleasure” (to name just a few). Paul comments: “Oh yeah, we're definitely looking forward to playing all those great festivals (and a support slot to Jag Panzer in Austria as well). Our fans finally want to see us play live. And we want to meet our fans in person as well.”
The opener of »Mounting The World«, “Canadian Steele”, is a nod to the New Wave Of Canadian Metal. Stallion are friends with current Canadian Metal bands such as Cauldron, Axxion, Skull Fist and Striker (not to forget Iron Kingdom). This does not mean, however, that they're trying to copy their sound. Far from it. “We wanted to cover a wide spectrum of different metal styles,” explains Paul. “And I do think that we have achieved just that,” he continues. “We're just playing the stuff we'd like to listen to anyway. Lyrically, I'm writing about what happens to me in everyday life. That's the inspiration for me.” Let's have a closer look at the individual songs: “The mentioned 'Canadian Steele' is our Speed Metal hymn. Some people have written to us in English because they thought we are Canadian”, laughs Paul. “'Give It Up' is more like a groovy Hard Rock number. And 'Shadow Run' is almost Thrash Metal. This sort of sums up the variety of different styles we are playing. 'Killing Time' and 'The Right One' are two songs we definitely wanted to have on the vinyl. In the end, it is the mixture that makes Stallion so strong.”
A superb cover version of Rock Goddess' “Heavy Metal Rock 'n' Roll” rounds off this fantastic mini-album. “It was very important to us to pay tribute to this extremely underrated band from Great Britain,” explains Paul. “Rock Goddess was such a superb band. We wanted to have a cover version on the album, that's for sure. 'Heavy Metal Rock 'n' Roll' is a song not too many people know. But it is surely one of the forgotten classics of heavy metal music. In addition to that, it sums up the mixture of different styles perfectly. We are big fans of the first Rock Goddess album, by the way. They are a superb all-female Metal band. Timeless stuff.”
Stallion already have a solid local fan base here in Germany and with the first mini-album and a long list of live dates this year, there's surely no stopping them in 2014.
The band is currently working on their full-length debut album for High Roller Records which is due to come out later this year. Paul explains: “We are writing songs at the moment. We hope to record the album in summer and have it out in autumn. Keep your fingers crossed. It is going to be an exciting time for us and our fans. 'The Stallion will ride on!”
