Rave In Fire are an upcoming female-fronted traditional heavy metal band formed in Madrid in 2015. With their first complete line-up an EP called »Chronicle Of A Timeless End« was released in 2018. This was followed by their first full-length album »Sons Of A Lie« in April 2022 (put out by Iron Oxide), the turning point in the band’s career. In 2024, Rave In Fire celebrated their German live debut, playing at the Trvheim festival.
Musically Rave In Fire have been inspired by veteran Spanish heavy metal bands Barón Rojo and Obús, but also newer homegrown acts like Witchtower, Leather Heart, Steelhorse or Hitten.
“To this day, the album has received very good reviews both outside and inside the metal circuit,” comment Rave In Fire regarding the reception of »Sons Of A Lie«. “It opened the door for us for more live work, including our first show outside Spain. We will never forget what a fan told us about this album: ‘It’s the best heavy metal album released in Spain since »Hammer Of Witches« by Witchtower’”.
The band’s brand-new studio album »Square One« is now scheduled to be released via High Roller Records. “Just like »Sons Of A Lie«, it’s a fully self-produced album,” Rave In Fire say. “The recording, production, mastering, and most of the songwriting was done by Jonjo Negrete, our guitarist and producer. The drums were recorded at California Studios in Madrid. All songs were performed by the current members of the band; no one else took part.”
“We believe it’s a continuation of the path we have followed on the predecessor,” the band says, “with a slightly more experimental touch. Without losing the essence of the band, we’ve explored some new directions to keep growing as musicians. We believe it’s the best version of ourselves right now. The main difference between »Square One« and its predecessor is that »Sons Of A Lie« was an album conceived for two guitars (we recorded it when we were still a five-piece band). »Square One«, in return, revolves less around guitars and gives a lot of space to the rest of the instruments. Likewise, »Square One« explores paths close to progressive, thrash and speed metal, while »Sons Of A Lie« was strictly following a hard and heavy approach.”
Songs like “Dark Poison”, “Knightwalker” or the high-energy “Speed And Rave” roughly sound like classic, Leather Leone-fronted Chastain mixed with early 80s Scorpions and a bit of Dio thrown in for good measure.
According to the band, ‘Square One’, the title track, can be best described as the grand “epic” of the album: “Yes, it's a very complete song, with many changes, being pretty close to progressive metal (it's a genre we love). We wanted to end with something a little different and give the album a proper ending. After all, every album you finish is the closing of a chapter in your life. This one has been long, intense and full of challenges, but with a very happy ending (which is why the song ends in major key).”
