Mastered for vinyl by Patrick W. Engel at TEMPLE OF DISHARMONY in November 2023.

Comprised of musicians from the latest wave of classic heavy metal rising on the US East Coast (Fortress and Poisoned Chalice, amongst others) and graced with the pipes of James-Paul Luna (formerly of Holy Grail and White Wizzard), Intranced have become a hot commodity within the scene with only one EP and single.

And you clearly understand why once you’ve heard the L.A. quartet’s six-track debut tape Intranced (2022) and succeeding two-track cassette/12-inch Rogue Warrior (2023): Drawing from time-tested standards set in the 1970s and early 80s, the band marries sparkling musicianship with pristine songwriting that basically makes their music incorruptible from the get-go.

“I thought it would be a blast to start an old-school metal project that still had a rock feel behind it,” singer Luna explains. “That period where hard rock started to become metal, yet still had that groove, funk, and boogie to it. UFO, Deep Purple, Priest, Maiden, Thin Lizzy, Rainbow, Saxon, and of course Scorpions are all influences.”

While also citing more obscure international forerunners ranging from El Reloj across Saracen to Picture, the band likewise pays homage to the Mexican and Argentinian heritage of some of its members by subtly incorporating musical and aesthetical elements from Latin American culture, coining the term “LatiNWoBHM” for their own uniquely flamboyant style.

Whether its traditional US power metal spiced up with rock’n’roll swagger as in ‘Upside Down’, the punk attitude of the otherwise wistful epic ‘Dream Lover’, or the fast-paced band anthem ‘Intranced’, where Luna rounds out his soulful midrange with high-pitched screams – Intranced set the bar incredibly high with their first eight songs.

Crowned by relatable lyrics rooted in everyday life (“Reality is where the best stories and tales originate,” Luna remarks) and a cover from legendary artist Michael Whelan, the EP is now available on vinyl for the very first time, including Rogue Warrior as a bonus for you to retrace the first giant steps of future heavy metal legend… for this is just the beginning of greater things to come on Intranced’s upcoming first album.

“Writing a full-length record gave us the chance to be even more creative than before and challenge ourselves to write different kinds of songs,” Luna concludes. “Fist-pumping sing-along tunes, uptempo rippers, bluesy 70s shuffle, and more!”
